As the result of a comprehensive educational specification, Norfolk Public Schools restructured the entire organization of Granby High School. The changes were needed to accommodate a continually increasing student population, as well as the need to update a historically significant building, which was founded in 1938 as a WPA project. Granby encompasses 157,000 square feet with a student population of 1,500. A three-year renovation and 177,185 square foot expansion was planned to technologically modernize the existing colonial-style building for the next century. DSI was selected by Norfolk Public Schools to design and install a comprehensive voice, video, and high speed data network complete with a media resource management system for 110 classrooms and laboratories, three multimedia presentation rooms, and an innovative CCTV security system. Phase one included twenty-nine color cameras, two time-lapse VCR's, two 20" monitors, and two multiplexors at the heart of the system. Three computercontrolled PTZ cameras and a video switcher allowing the system to be managed from the head end (security office) as well as multiple remote sites within the school will be integrated in Phase II. From a computer in the Principal's office, one can control and view any camera within the school's security system. In addition to this video monitoring, an Intrusion Detection System also maintains building security. |
