Founded in 1728, Norfolk Academy, one of the nation's first academic institutions, has consistently been a leader in the education of young people. Norfolk Academy became the community's cornerstone in information technology when it envisioned and made into reality a high-tech environment within the 1960's campus building of Batten Library. DSI designed and installed an integrated voice, video, and data system at Norfolk Academy. The sixty-five classrooms and nine buildings are now dynamically linked with a campus-wide LAN utilizing the AMX Synergy Media Resource Management System. DSI upgraded electrical services to the campus and created an infrastructure utilizing a combination of fiber optic, coaxial, and twisted pair cabling. Communications were further enhanced by a Mitel (SX-200) PBX, a Novell-based Callware voice processing system, and an Ethernet connection to WHRO providing full T1 through-put to the Internet. In addition to the library, DSI installed an audiovisual presentation graphics display and control system to the Landmark Presentation Hall. The Thomas J. Lyons electronic seminar room was also integrated with the AMX Synergy System to provide distance-learning opportunities from any room on campus. | |
